Elliott Hewitt’s Wales U21s beat fellow Blues youngster Gunnar Thorsteinsson’s Icelanders 3-0 at Stebonheath Park, Llanelli this afternoon. Bristol City’s Wes Burns, Jonathan Williams of Crystal Palace and Wrexham’s Robert Ogleby netted the goals in the final 12 minutes.
Right-back Hewitt won his sixth cap for the side coached by former Blue Geraint Williams, while Town defender or midfielder Gunnar Thorsteinsson came on as a 62nd minute sub for Iceland to win his first U21 cap.
Elsewhere this evening, Josh Carson was an unused sub as Northern Ireland drew 0-0 in a friendly in Malta, while loan keeper Stephen Henderson remained on the bench throughout the Republic of Ireland’s 2-0 home win against Poland.
Overnight, skipper Carlos Edwards will win his 83rd cap with Trinidad and Tobago, and will be looking for his fifth international goal, when the Soca Warriors take on Peru in a home friendly.
