Cresswell: Squad Buzzing After Boro Win - Ipswich Town News

Town defender Aaron Cresswell and his team-mates enjoyed the feel-good factor as they prepared to head north for Saturday’s clash at Blackburn.

The tonic of last weekend’s convincing 4-0 home defeat of sixth-placed Middlesbrough not only provided the perfect pick-me-up for flu-ridden boss Mick McCarthy, who followed the action via an iPad from his sick bed, but also worked wonders as a morale-booster for everyone at Portman Road.

Cresswell, 23, said: "It’s always good to come in on a Monday morning after we’ve scored four goals, kept a clean sheet and got the three points.

"At the minute all the lads are buzzing and looking forward to Saturday’s game. When you score four and also keep a clean sheet you can’t ask for much more. For us to do it at home, where we haven’t had the best of performances of late, is also good for the fans and for the town.”

Cresswell reflected on the difference in recent months under Mick McCarthy to the period at the start of the current campaign when little was going right for Paul Jewell and his players.

He added: "At the start of the season I wasn’t playing as well as I would have liked but as a team we were getting beaten more or less each week and it wasn’t nice coming into training or for the games.

"You don’t feel confident in that situation but since Mick has taken over we’ve had a good few wins and the lads are now full of confidence going into each game.

"It doesn’t seem to matter what level you are playing at, when a new manager comes in for some reason everything just seems to click.

"When we played Birmingham away in his first game in charge we picked up a win and it just went from there, really, and we’ve certainly picked up a lot more wins since then under him.”
