Town's U18s comfortably beat Barnet 3-1 at Bent Lane on Saturday morning with two goals from Jon Leddy and one from Jack Marriott, while Ryan Battista netted for the Bees.
The game was switched at late notice to one of the pitches at the old Bent Lane training area, presumably due to the overnight rain affecting the usual pitch at Playford Road.
Town started brightly and Marriott squandered two good early chances - skewing his side-foot over following Kyle Hammond's cut-back and then toe-poking just wide under pressure from keeper Dillon Barnes after being put through by Cory Galvin.
There was then a ten-minute stoppage in proceedings midway through the first half when Blues striker Cory Galvin accidentally clashed heads in an aerial battle with Ish Thomas. The Barnet centre-back was carried off on a stretcher and wearing a neck brace.
Tom Winter curled a 20-yard effort just wide of the top corner before the same man helped give Town a 44th minute lead. His floated freekick was helped on by Marriott and captain Leddy slid in at the back post to poke the ball home.
Rory Thompson produced a fine challenge to prevent Battista from slotting past Michael Crowe, but there was nothing he could do three minutes into first-half stoppage time.
Sub Kier Dickson played the ball into Battista's feet and fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net to send the teams into half-time level.
The visitors had the first real chance of the second period when Zach Khlaf played in George Sykes, but Crowe blocked well at his near post.
Winter headed Mark Timlin's cross wide minutes later, before Marriott got his name on the scoresheet on 56. Galvin burst into the box and Hammond's effort was cleared off the line, but the rebound fell kindly to Marriott, who hit the ball into the roof of the net.
Barnes was forced to make a number of impressive saves as Town controlled large periods of the second half; the pick probably being a reaction save to deny sub Cemal Ramadan after he deflected Leddy's shot goal bound.
The lively Ramadan hit a post as the final whistle approached, moments before Galvin was bundled over in the area. Leddy stepped up and hit a good penalty into the bottom corner of the net to wrap up the points for Russell Osman's youngsters.
Leddy ran the show for Town with an impressive midfield display. Marriott will have been disappointed to have not scored more than once, while Galvin's pace and trickery caused the visitors problems throughout. Town's U16s beat the same opposition 5-2.
