Left-back Joe Whight missed out on making his debut for loan club Chelmsford last night as their home match against Farnborough was postponed due to a snowy pitch. The 19-year-old, whose Town contract is up at the end of the season, will spend the rest of the season with the Blue Square Bet South side, although can also appear for the Blues’ U21s.
Chelmsford manager and ex-Town midfielder Glenn Pennyfather says Town were keen to send Whight out to get games under his belt: "I know [Blues U21 coach] Mark Kennedy and he got in touch saying they had a good young lad that needed experience.
"It's an area of the team in which we don't have any competition or cover at the moment and we don't want to get in a situation where we're fitting square pegs in round holes. I know Ipswich rate him very highly and he's a lovely lad."
Whight, who has been a sub for the Town first team but is yet to make a senior appearance, is now set to make his debut for the Clarets at Eastleigh on Saturday.
Also currently in the Essex side’s squad are ex-Blues reserves captain Justin Miller and former academy striker Craig Calver.
Meanwhile, Town's Saturday opponents Blackpool are reportedly close to appointing former England skipper Paul Ince as their new manager. However, caretaker-boss Steve Thompson may still be in charge for Saturday's match at Portman Road.
