Whight Will Benefit From Experience - Ipswich Town News

Left-back Joe Whight will benefit from his loan spell with Blue Square Bet South side Chelmsford City, according to Town boss Mick McCarthy. Whight, 19, joined the Clarets on loan until the end of the season this week and is set to make his debut at Eastleigh today.

McCarthy said: "The point of going out on loan is going out and playing some meaningful games.

"Whatever crowd it is, whatever they’re playing for, if it’s for money, if it’s for points, if it’s for prizes, then it just means more.

"It’ll be a tougher league than the U21s that we play in. That’s development; developing skills, developing players.

"Going to play for a team in a league gives you that edge, toughens you up. It’s up to him, we’ll see how he does.”

Whight, who will still be available for Town’s U21s while with the Essex side, will be looking to do enough during his spell to win a new Blues contract with his current terms up at the end of June.

McCarthy has also been keen to get the likes of Josh Carson out on loan, while right-back Jack Ainsley has spent time on trial at Bury and Preston recently. However, he says no further moves are currently imminent: "Nobody’s going out as we speak.”
