McGoldrick: No Going Back - Ipswich Town News

David McGoldrick has refuted suggestions he could be lured back to Nottingham Forest and instead confirmed he is staying at Ipswich.

Ever since McGoldrick joined Town on loan, and despite both player and club making their positions clear, some people have continued to speculate on his future.

But although he remains under contract at Forest until the end of the season, McGoldrick has repeated that he will be remaining at Portman Road, not only until the summer but for a further two years thereafter.

McGoldrick said: "I am not going anywhere. I’m on loan until the end of the season and I have also agreed a two-year contract to start on July 1. I can’t really be any clearer than that.”

With his former Forest boss, Billy Davies, now back in charge at the club it was put to him that he might be tempted to return and join their push for the play-offs.

It was Davies who took McGoldrick to the City Ground in a £1 million move from Southampton almost four years ago and he helped them to two play-off finishes.

But while McGoldrick has ruled out any chance of a reunion with his former boss, he believes Forest have made the right move in turning back the clock.

He added: "Billy has gone back there and he has his own ideas about players. I like Billy — he’s one of the best managers I’ve worked under — but I have every respect for the gaffer here.

"I don’t see Billy trying to get me back there or anything like that. What’s happening at Forest now is what happens, more often than not, when any club appoints a new manager and they start getting results.

"Billy knows the place and there are still a lot of players there from when he was manager before. I’ve spoken to a few of the boys at Forest and there has definitely been a positive reaction to Billy going back.

"We’ve seen it before where an in-form team sneaks into the play-offs and ends up going up. With Billy in charge I wouldn’t bet against them, not only getting into the play-offs but making it third time lucky and going all the way into the Premiership.”
