He may have scored just once in his seven Championship starts for Ipswich but David McGoldrick is not too concerned with his modest return.
McGoldrick, who also drew a blank as a substitute in Town’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Aston Villa last month, has made it clear the emphasis is on the team and their ongoing battle to stay in the Championship.
The striker, on loan from Nottingham Forest, scored 17 goals in 25 appearances for League One side Coventry, a record that persuaded Town boss Mick McCarthy to bring him to Portman Road with the promise of a two-year permanent deal from July 1st.
McGoldrick said: "I’m happy with my performances, although obviously I would like a few more goals, but the most important thing is the results.
"In our situation it’s all about results. That’s what we need, more than personal performances. We just have to win games and get points on the board, and if we can keep playing the way we have been recently I am sure the goals will come.
"The lack of goals isn’t something I’m thinking about and certainly not to the point where it’s a concern. Right now it’s all about making sure we get safe and doing a job for the team — the dirty work if you like.
"I’m more than happy to do what they want me to do. I think the goals will come and if I’m selected on Saturday at Huddersfield I can see there being chances. Huddersfield have to come out of the blocks and go for the win, which could suit us.”
