Lee Martin’s Ipswich future may be uncertain but he is confident Mick McCarthy’s appointment as manager will reap dividends next season.
Martin, 26, is not only confident about Town preserving their Championship status but fully expects them to mount a promotion challenge.
The winger will be out of contract in the summer and accepts he might not be around at the start of McCarthy’s first full season in charge.
But he insisted: "Listen, the manager will get it right, there’s no two ways about it. He’ll get the players in and he’ll get it going. What he’s done since he’s been here has been brilliant.
"Not everyone might agree with it but if we did it over the course of a full season it would get us close to the top two. I’m sure he will get the right players in and next season they could be right up there.
"With Mick it’s a case of what you see is what you get. He won’t shy away from a few harsh words and that’s the best way to be. He’s honest with everyone.”
Martin is happy to put his own future to one side for the time being and focus his attention on the club’s battle to survive.
He added: "It’s been like that since the start of the season with my future unclear. It probably doesn’t help going into a season not knowing where you are going to be the following season, but the manager has assessed it and decided we will talk about contracts at the end of the season.
"I’m more likely to stay under Mick McCarthy. I enjoy working under the gaffer and TC. It’s brilliant.”
