McCarthy: Lack of Goals is a Concern - Ipswich Town News

Boss Mick McCarthy says Town’s lack of goals is being worked on in training with the Blues having scored just twice in their last seven matches.

McCarthy admits that it’s a concern: "Of course it is and it’s one that we’re trying to address.

"Is it that we have a team of players which is actually good at defending and getting the ball back, chasing it, tackling it and being tough and resolute? I think we have.

"And then we’ve got to try and get players in the box, get more bodies in the box, better deliveries from the corners and freekicks that we work on.

"And then when you do get a good delivery, it’s about getting somebody to get their napper on it rather than be stood looking at it.

"There’s lots of components to scoring goals. It’s not just ‘You’re not scoring, what are you going to do about it?’. We’re working on it all the time.

"Against Leicester, did we have many chances? Did they? No, but we certainly defended well and we took the chance which was the important one.”

The Blues boss says his team had chances to win last week’s 0-0 draw at Peterborough: "We could have done better with some of our opportunities, our final pass to create a cross or to put in a shot and we didn’t do it particularly well on some occasions. On others we did.

"Frank hit the post with a great strike and the two saves the keeper made were outstanding. World class? I’d say they were. So, on a different day we might have won the game, but it wasn’t to be.”
