Town midfielder Andy Drury believes he has established himself as a Championship footballer but still isn’t sure where he will be spending the next phase of his career.
Like several of his Ipswich colleagues, the former Luton player will be out of contract in the summer and has yet to enter discussions about a new deal at Portman Road.
But Drury, 29, is quite happy to let his football do the talking for the time being and resolve his immediate future once the current campaign has ended.
He said: "At the moment I don’t have a clue what is happening. I think it’s just a matter of waiting to see when we’re safe.
"I haven’t spoken to other clubs and I’m not aware of my agent speaking to anyone either. I just think it’s a case of getting these games out of the way, making sure we’re safe for next season and finishing in mid-table. It can be sorted out then.”
Drury has clocked up 62 games, scoring twice, since former manager Paul Jewell paid the non-league Hatters £150,000 for Drury in January 2011.
The player added: "I’ve been used to signing one-year contracts so it doesn’t really bother me. I just get on with it and all I want to do is play football.
"I’m not very happy when I’m not in the team. When I wasn’t in last year I preferred to go out on loan. As long as I’m match fit I think I’m a good Championship player.
"I have plenty of confidence in my ability to play at this level for a few years. I don’t want to drop down any more than the next player. I’ll see what happens in the summer, whether I’m still here or somewhere else.”
Drury agrees that there is room for improvement regarding his contribution in terms of goals, having failed to find the net this season in 28 outings — 19 starts and a further nine as a substitute.
Coincidentally, one of his two goals for Town was against tomorrow’s opponents Leeds in a 3-1 defeat at Elland Road in January last year.
He admitted: "I need to score more goals and hopefully it’s something I will do between now and the end of the season, as long as I’m in the team obviously.”
