Quotes from Inter Game - Ipswich Town News

George Burley praised the large Town following at the San Siro last night as Town's European run ended in defeat. Town scorer Alun Armstrong said last night was the best of his career.

Burley said: "Our fans gave us tremendous support which was all credit to them. They have enjoyed this European experience and they have followed us in Moscow and Helsingborg and now Milan.

"I just hope that we can do them proud and go on in the future to qualify for Europe once more. We have to admit we were beaten by a better side on the night and we will have to learn from this experience and take that with us.

"Two goals from mistakes have cost us very dearly but Christian Vieri showed what a truly wonderful player he is by taking his hat-trick the way he did."

Armstrong grabbed his chance of a second goal against Inter when Matt Holland's shot was handled in the second half: "Even though we lost, it was probably the best night of my career. Scoring in the San Siro was just fantastic.

"As soon as the penalty came I wanted to take it. I stepped up straight away and I can't begin to tell you how I felt when it went in, right in front of the Ipswich supporters.

"We did a lot better in the second half but to come back from 3-0 down was just too much to ask. They were a fantastic side. They have world class players and they showed that. To have £61 million worth of talent sitting on the bench sums it up."

Town skipper Matt Holland swapped shirts with Inter captain Javier Zanetti at the end and saw Kallon's goal immediately after half-time as a crucial blow: "Even though we were 2-0 down we just needed one more goal to go through.

"But when Kallon scored just after the break that really killed us and it was a lot to do to come back from that.

"The fans were fantastic as they have been all season. We couldn't have asked for more from them. Now we look to put things right in the Premiership for them."
