JET: I'm No Super-Sub - Ipswich Town News

Town star Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has made it clear he has no desire to be known as an impact player, super-sub or any other similar label.

It was after coming off the bench to great effect in home victories over Leicester, Bolton and, most recently, Leeds last Saturday that he was included in the starting line-up at Millwall on Easter Monday, completing the entire 90 minutes in the goalless stalemate.

It was the first time since he took charge that Mick McCarthy had included Emmanuel-Thomas from the start in a Championship fixture, a clear indication of how far down the pecking order the ex-Arsenal player had slipped.

Emmanuel-Thomas said: "I came on against Leicester and made a late block, came on against Bolton and set up the only goal for Carlos Edwards and then came on against Leeds and scored.

"So three games out of four I came on and made three different types of impact and people are maybe thinking ‘He just wants to be an impact player’. But it was just a case of me thinking to myself ‘If that’s what is needed to help the team to stay up then that’s what I have to do’.

"The goal against Leeds was my first at Portman Road this season and it was like a big weight off my shoulders. I know I just came on as a sub but just getting the goal gives you a feeling that you’re back in and you just want to keep playing.”
