TWTD understands that striker David McGoldrick will remain with the Blues for the rest of the season under the terms of the deal agreed with Nottingham Forest in January, despite his 93-day loan coming to an end after Saturday’s game at Derby.
It had been understood that the 25-year-old was on loan at Portman Road for the second half of the season until it emerged yesterday that his stay was actually a 93-day emergency loan rather than a window to window switch.
Players are not allowed to join two clubs on window to window loans during the same season and so a 93-day loan with McGoldrick staying on at Town beyond the end of that spell was agreed.
At the time of McGoldrick's move the club's official announcement of his signing said the striker "will remain at Portman Road until May" but made no specific reference to the length of the loan.
Despite being unavailable for the final five games of the season, it's understood that McGoldrick will continue to train with the Town squad at Playford Road.
Both club and player have stated that McGoldrick will sign a two-year contract in the summer when he becomes a free agent, although Mick McCarthy confirmed yesterday that there is as yet nothing in writing to confirm this and that the deal would only be done if Town retain their Championship status.
