Walking Football Course Launched - Ipswich Town News

Live Well Suffolk is launching a unique new walking football course on 18th April at the Goals Football Centre at Suffolk New College in Ipswich.

Walking football is a unique fitness course designed to encourage people to get into the game without the pressures of keeping up with a fast pace.

Open to men and women, walking football - a traditional five-a-side game of football played entirely at walking pace - is ideal for those looking for a lower impact activity or those who would like to try a slower style of game.

The course focuses on tactical skills and ball control, rather than speed, and has grown in popularity over the past year.

Live Well Suffolk’s free six-week course will take place on Thursday afternoons from 1.30pm until 3pm. The course will be led by an FA Level 2 qualified coach and will feature 30 minutes of fun drills and exercises followed by a game of walking-pace football.

Richard Crick, senior community health coach for Live Well Suffolk, said: "Walking football is a relatively new concept and is designed to make the game more accessible to all.

"It is ideal for those who enjoy playing football but prefer not to get involved at a competitive level. By bringing it back down to basics, the course is focusing on the various skills involved in the game and is a great way of encouraging people to become more active.”

He continued: "We are really looking forward to bringing walking football to Ipswich. It is a really enjoyable activity and is a great way of improving your overall health and fitness in a sociable way. We would encourage anyone who is thinking of taking up football to get in touch.”

The walking football course is expected to be popular and advance booking is required. To register a place on the course, phone Live Well Suffolk on 01473 229292 or email tasters@livewellsuffolk.org.uk. Some eligibility criteria will be applied.
