Cresswell: Smith or Chambers Player of the Year - Ipswich Town News
Defensive colleagues Tommy Smith or Luke Chambers would earn Aaron Cresswell’s vote in the annual Town supporters’ poll to decide who succeeds him as Player of the Year.
But, with the fans due to cast their votes next week, the left-back is refusing to be any more specific than that and will not reveal which of his team-mates he favours for the coveted award.
Cresswell, who scooped the accolade at the end of his first season at Portman Road, said: "There are a few candidates. I’d say Tommy Smith, Luke Chambers and a few others. Personally, I’d go for Tommy or Luke.”
Given Town’s impressive record of goals conceded — just six in the last 14 games, including 10 clean sheets — it would be a major surprise if a defender did not emerge as top dog.
Cresswell added: "The gaffer and TC are always doing defensive work, set pieces and stuff like that. What we do on the training ground is what we try to take into games.
"Scott Loach has been great too. He had a bit of a setback when Hendo came back on loan from West Ham but since he got back into the side five games ago he’s kept four clean sheets.
"He literally won us the recent game at Derby with his penalty save in the first half so hopefully he can stay in the team and help to keep us up.”
