Manager Mick McCarthy says skipper Carlos Edwards is a good example to young players at the club. The Trinidadian was made captain by former boss Paul Jewell and has kept the armband since the change of management in November.
McCarthy said: "Carlos is a really good example to any young player. To be 34 and have the levels of fitness that he’s got.
"And with the way he conducts himself. He comes in and has a smile on his face, he trains well every day. He’s a good person to have around the place, and I guess that’s why Paul made him the captain and that’s why he’s still captain with me.”
He says that while Edwards isn’t an overly vocal skipper he goes about the role in his own manner: "We all have different attributes, but what he does is do his job properly, he’s a good professional and that reflects and everybody respects that.
"Is he a demonstrative captain shouting and ranting? No he’s not. But he just goes about his job in a nice, calm and collected way. And he does it with a nice smile on his face.”
Edwards is contracted to the Blues for another season having made enough appearances to trigger an option for a further season earlier in the campaign.
