Manager Mick McCarthy says skipper Carlos Edwards’s strike to set the Blues on their way to Saturday’s 3-1 home victory over Birmingham was up there with Aaron Cresswell’s Town Goal of the Season in the recent 3-0 win against Crystal Palace.
McCarthy said: "It was a really good strike. It might have put a bit of pressure on Cressy because he was home and hosed as soon as he put that in the net.
"I think they were a little bit disappointed because it became a non-competition. It was non-competitive after that, he’d won it hands down.”
The Blues boss has a lot of time for Edwards, who he says plays nothing like his 34 years: "He certainly does not. Whatever he’s eating I’ll take it. I want some of it! He’s an amazing athlete and he’s played well as well.
"He always gives you athleticism, but he’s got better. I think he plays more cultured, a bit more considered.
"He’s started getting goals, he’s got to chip in with goals. You can’t be depending on centre-forwards all the time, your wide players have got to contribute, your midfield players, and he’s started to do that. He’s a lovely guy, he’s a lovely, lovely man. He’s great.”
