Colchester Friendly Announced - Ipswich Town News
Town have announced that they will play Colchester United in a pre-season friendly at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Tuesday 23rd July (KO 7.45pm).
The Blues have faced the U’s in pre-season games for the last two seasons. Prior to 2011/12 the game was abandoned at 0-0 with eight minutes remaining due to an injury sustained by Colchester midfielder Andy Bond.
Last year two goals from Michael Chopra saw the Blues to a 2-1 victory, Clinton Morrison netting for the home side.
Prices have been set at £15 for adults, £12 for 18 to 21-year-olds and £10 for senior citizens.
The match is Town’s first confirmed pre-season fixture, although Mick McCarthy has said he plans one game in Ireland, while a friendly against St Mirren followed by another match in Scotland have also been mooted. However, McCarthy, like his predecessor Paul Jewell, favours playing the majority of pre-season games as locally as possible.
Town owe Chippenham Town an away friendly from the deal to sign Tyrone Mings in December.
There will be no home friendly this summer with work taking place to improve drainage to the Portman Road pitch.

Blackburn Rovers 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match AbandonedTown look set to face a return trip to Blackburn Rovers later in the season after this afternoon’s game was abandoned after 80 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch with the home side 1-0 up and with the Blues down to 10 men. Jacob Greaves was shown a straight red card four minutes after the break for hauling down Yuki Ohashi, then Rovers skipper Todd Cantwell netted a penalty on 59, but the heavy rain had made the game increasingly farcical the longer it progressed and in the 80th minute referee Stephen Martin took the players off and then 25 minutes later abandoned it entirely.
