Villa Linked With New Move for Cresswell - Ipswich Town News

Aston Villa will renew their interest in Town left-back Aaron Cresswell this summer, according to tabloid reports.

Last July, Villa made an enquiry regarding Cresswell, 23, before eventually opting to add Middlesbrough left-back Joe Bennett to their squad.

Manager Paul Lambert is said to be keen to improve his backline during this close season and will reportedly again target Cresswell, who played every minute of Town's 2012/13 campaign.

If an offer is forthcoming it would come as no surprise to Blues boss Mick McCarthy, who said recently that he was expecting interest in the Liverpudlian, who he views as "a Premier League footballer in the making”.

Cresswell, who is contracted to the Blues until June 2015, joined Town from Tranmere at the end of his terms at Prenton Park in the summer of 2011.

A Football League tribunal set compensation at an initial £240,000 rising to £520,000 after various milestone clauses, while Rovers are entitled to 20% of the profit if Cresswell is sold.
