Striker Michael Chopra has again said he could decide to stay at Town for the remaining year of his contract, despite manager Mick McCarthy making him available for transfer at the end of the season.
Chopra, whose relationship with supporters has been less than harmonious in the wake of his well-documented off-field issues and Twitter controversies, tweeted: "Might stay at Ipswich as I know how much the Ipswich fans love me keep telling people I don't need to leave.”
The 29-year-old was told he could find another club along with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas at the end of the campaign having failed to secure a regular place in the side but quickly indicated that he might choose to remain at Portman Road: "Just coz I'm on the transfer list does not mean I have to leave. I have one year left on my contract, it’s down to the player if he wants to go or not.”
While Fulham are targeting Emmanuel-Thomas, so far there has been little speculation regarding clubs coming in for Chopra, although a number of sides — including now-promoted Hull City — showed interest in signing him on loan in January.
One report this weekend claimed Chopra could move on a free transfer, a not unlikely scenario as McCarthy looks to off-load his wage - the striker is understood to be one of the club's top earners - in order to add to his summer transfer budget.
