Released Brighton Midfielder Linked - Ipswich Town News

Town are reportedly one of a number of clubs set to hold talks with released Brighton and Hove Albion central midfielder Gary Dicker. The 26-year-old is said to be interesting several Championship sides including the Blues, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.

Dubliner Dicker began his career in Ireland with UCD, spending time on loan at Birmingham City during 2006/07 but without making a first team appearance.

In May 2007 the 6ft 2in tall midfielder signed for Stockport County, who were then in League Two, for a fee of £40,000.

In March 2009, he joined Brighton on loan, making his switch to the Seagulls permanent the following summer on a free transfer.

The former Irish U19 and U21 international was a regular for Brighton during their 2010/11 League One promotion season.

He has remained in or around the first team at the Amex in their two Championship campaigns and made 26 appearances last season prior to his release last month.

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Andros Townsend has been banned for four months, three suspended until 2016, for breaching football's betting regulations. The Tottenham wideman, 21, was also fined £18,000.

Townsend made 14 starts and two sub appearances for the Blues during a loan spell during the first half of 2010/11, scoring once.
