Town Confirm Murphy Deal - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed that Daryl Murphy has agreed a two-year permanent deal at Portman Road. On Saturday, TWTD revealed that the 30-year-old, a veteran of three loan spells with the Blues, was close to a deal having been released by Celtic.

Murphy told the club site that he is happy to finally be a Town player on a full-time basis: "I’m delighted to be back.

"I had a chat with the manager at the end of the season and I’m pleased to get the deal done and finally be an Ipswich player on a permanent basis.

"It’s well documented that I love being at Ipswich and I made no secret that I wanted to return. The fans have been great with me every time I’ve been here and I think the club is really heading in the right direction.

"Tabby has joined too which is great to see and, like me, he saw the potential the side was showing last season and was keen to come back here.

"Now the focus is getting ready for the new season and I’m already looking forward to coming back for pre-season and meeting up with all the lads again.”

The Irishman, whose terms will start on July 1st when his contract at Parkhead formally ends, spent the whole of 2012/13 on loan at Portman Road, scoring seven goals in 33 starts and seven sub appearances.

Capped nine times by Ireland without scoring, striker or left midfielder Murphy made 32 starts and two sub appearances for Town during his another season-long loan during 2011/12, netting four goals.

Murphy, who said he was delighted to be back on an official club keek, was previously with the Blues during the second half of the 2009/10 season when he scored six goals in 18 appearances before moving from Sunderland to Celtic that summer.

While with hometown club Waterford United, Murphy spent several spells on trial at Portman Road during the 2004/05 campaign but eventually opted to join the Premier League Black Cats, then managed by current Town boss Mick McCarthy.
