Town Draw Stevenage in Capital One Cup - Ipswich Town News

Town have drawn League One Stevenage away in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The teams have not previously met in a competitive fixture, although they faced one another in a pre-season friendly in the summer of 2007 when the then-Conference side won 3-0.

Blues central defender Tommy Smith had a spell on loan with Stevenage in 2008, making 15 Conference appearances.

The tie will be played in the week commencing 5th August. The draw was seeded based on the final league positions during the 2012/13 season and split on a north-south basis.

Last season’s two highest-placed relegated Premier League sides have received byes through to round two in the case of Reading and round three for Wigan.

The 2013/14 league fixtures are released on Wednesday at 9am when as usual they will be available on TWTD.

Returning striker George Hirst put the Blues in front in the 19th minute but the Tigers levelled on 40 through Ozan Tufan before Omari Hutchinson put Town back ahead with the first of two brilliant goals. However, Hull equalised again through Liam Delap in the 56th minute, then Hutchinson’s second put the Blues ahead again, however, Tigers sub Noah Ohio grabbed a point for the East Yorkshire side with three minutes remaining and the Blues were unable to take late chances to win it.
