Tranmere Boss Hopeful Williams Will Sign - Ipswich Town News

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore says he’s hopeful that out-of-contract keeper Owain Fon Williams, who is understood to have been offered terms by the Blues, will sign a new deal at Prenton Park. Blackpool and Bristol City also reportedly offered contracts to the 26-year-old this summer.

Moore says the Welshman, who is currently training with Tranmere, wants to remain with the League One club having turned down interest from elsewhere: "Fonners has said he loves it here and doesn't want to go anywhere else.

"He's had offers from elsewhere that he has turned down and says he wants to stay here, so hopefully we will get that sorted soon.”

While a switch to a Championship club may have held some attractions, Williams may believe he has more chance of playing first team football by remaining with Rovers in League One.

Having released Arran Lee-Barrett and Jason Brown at the end of the season, Scott Loach is currently Town’s only senior goalkeeper and one, probably two, new keepers are likely to be on manager Mick McCarthy’s summer wish list.

The Blues have held talks with West Ham regarding Stephen Henderson returning on a season-long loan with McCarthy not ruling out the Irishman rejoining the club earlier in the week, while Millwall’s David Forde is also believed to be amongst the keepers interesting the Town boss.
