Edwards to Make Gold Cup Debut - Ipswich Town News

Town skipper Carlos Edwards will make his CONCACAF Gold Cup debut overnight when Trinidad and Tobago take on El Salvador in their opening group game at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey (ESPN, Sky channel 433, ESPN HD, Sky 417, midnight).

The Soca Warriors squad arrived in Newark on Saturday morning prior before holding a session at their Jersey City University training site, having previously spent time training in Fort Lauderdale.

Trinidad and Tobago face Haiti in their second game in Miami on Friday and then complete their group matches when they come up against Honduras in Houston next Monday.

Edwards, 34, who has previously won 84 caps and scored four international goals, will join up with the Town squad once his national side is eliminated from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Town's traditional pre-season reception and barbecue has fallen victim to the cuts currently taking place as the club adjusts to the new Financial Fair Play rules.

The event, held at the Cobbolds' Glemham Hall for more than 20 years, saw players and some club off-field staff mix with, amongst others, commercial partners and media.
