Town are “highly likely” to make an approach to Tottenham regarding the loan of centre-half Bongani Khumalo, according to the South African international’s representative. The 26-year-old has impressed Blues boss Mick McCarthy during the friendlies at Crawley and Gillingham.
Speaking to South African website Soccer Laduma, Khumalo’s UK representative Matt Kleinman said: "Mick McCarthy has been very impressed with what he’s seen from Bongani so far and it’s highly likely that they’ll pursue the option to loan him from Tottenham Hotspur.”
Khumalo is yet to make a senior appearance for Spurs since he joined them on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Supersport United in his home country for £1.7 million in January 2011.
Whether the Blues do make an approach to take Khumalo on what’s likely to be a season-long loan could depend on the situation of another of Town’s current trialists, Titus Bramble.
Speaking last night, boss McCarthy said things are at a very early stage with the 31-year-old former Blue, who was released by Sunderland at the end of last season.
Town are very much in need of central defenders with Tommy Smith and Luke Chambers currently the only centre-halves on the books.
