Blues striker Michael Chopra is reportedly set to be reunited with his former Cardiff City manager Dave Jones at Sheffield Wednesday. Rumours on the TWTD Message Board over the weekend linked the 29-year-old, who has been made available for transfer despite having a year remaining on his contract, with the Owls, while a proposed switch to Barnsley, also mentioned as a potential destination over the weekend, is said to have previously broken down.
Blues boss Mick McCarthy played down talk of serious interest in Chopra after Saturday’s game at Barnet — "not yet” — but admitted that the former England U21 had been left on the bench to prevent him picking up an injury.
Unconfirmed sources on social media subsequently reported that Chopra had told some supporters that he would be moving on.
The striker appears certain to leave Town on a free with the club likely to have to settle the remaining year on what’s understood to be an £18,000-a-week contract.
Owls boss Dave Jones has also expressed an interest in re-signing former Blues striker Connor Wickham from Sunderland on loan: "It is something we would be interested in if it came around, but it is far too early to even contemplate it at the moment."
Wickham, 20, spent just over a month at Hillsborough towards the end of last season, netting once in four starts and two sub appearances.
Meanwhile, new right-back Frederic Veseli has been handed the number 20 shirt for the season ahead.
