Town have confirmed that striker Paul Taylor has been included in the squad for tonight’s pre-season friendly at Colchester United (KO 7.45pm), as revealed by TWTD at the weekend. The 25-year-old has been out of action since September when he suffered a serious foot injury in only his third game after making a £1.5 million move from Peterborough United the previous month.
Boss Mick McCarthy told the club site: "Paul has trained really well. His injury is fine. He’s been pushing more than anyone else to play but it’s just been a case of making sure his rehabilitation is right and he’s ready to come back."
New central defender Christophe Berra is also in the party travelling to North Essex having trained with his new team-mates for the first time yesterday after signing a two-year deal at the end of last week.
Skipper Carlos Edwards and Trinidad and Tobago are now out of the CONCACAF Gold Cup but the 34-year-old won’t be involved this evening.
Meanwhile, Waterford United winger Jack Doherty, 18, is understood to be at the club with the formalities regarding his switch from the Irish side likely to be completed in the next day or so.
Town have sold out of their initial allocation of almost 1,500 tickets for the season opener at Reading on Saturday 3rd August. More seats will be on sale soon.
Elsewhere, Wolves midfielder Karl Henry, who is understood to be a player Mick McCarthy would have liked at Town, is on the verge of joining QPR in a £1 million deal.
