Boss Mick McCarthy says he’s only one player away from having assembled the squad he wants for the start of the season at Reading a week on Saturday. The Town manager has made nine additions so far in what’s been a productive first summer at Portman Road.
Speaking after the game at Colchester on Tuesday, McCarthy said: "That’s just about us except for one more, I think.”
Asked whether that player was a midfielder, the Blues boss wouldn’t be drawn: "I can’t tell you that!”
Another central midfielder would appear to be the area McCarthy is likely to be looking to strengthen — Manchester United youngster Ryan Tunnicliffe linked yesterday — with former loanee Guirane N’Daw having left the club at the end of last season.
Last Month, McCarthy revealed that he had talked to the Senegalese international’s representatives earlier in the summer, but there have been no further developments on that front.
"No, I spoke to his agent when he left and we’ve spoken to him since,” he said. "But there’s nothing further to report. Hopefully, when I get the one I want it’ll be done and you’ll find out.”
