McCarthy Delighted With Mings's New Deal - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he’s delighted that 20-year-old left-back Tyrone Mings has signed a new contract until the summer of 2015. The former Chippenham Town man is currently sidelined with a knee injury but is expected back midway through September.

McCarthy said: "I’m delighted for him, delighted for us. We signed him, he cost us next to nothing and the biggest compliment I can pay him is the day that he played in the first team against Reading, the best left-back in the Championship wasn’t playing and we didn’t miss him. That’s not a dig at Cressy, that’s a feather in Tyrone’s cap."

The Blues boss was impressed that Mings managed to keep playing at the Madejski Stadium despite suffering his injury after only 20 minutes: "It was remarkable that he came off at the end with a medial ligament injury.

"When he did it I was saying ‘Are you coming off?’, but he was having none of it, he stayed on. He’s a tough lad. I was delighted with him and I’m even happier still now that he’s signed a new deal.”
