Boss Mick McCarthy says he’s yet to hear anything from SPL Hibernian regarding midfielder Josh Carson, who has spent this week on trial at Easter Road. The 20-year-old was with Notts County last week and there is still the possibility that the Northern Ireland international, who is free to leave Portman Road, could be reunited with Town's former reserves coach Chris Kiwomya at Meadow Lane.
Last night Pat Fenlon, the manager of the Edinburgh club, said he'd been impressed by Carson and is believed to want to sign him on loan but McCarthy is yet to hear from him: "He’s been up at Hibs. I haven’t heard from them. He was at Notts County last week, he’s been at Hibs this week.
"Notts County were kind of interested in him, I think Chris Kiwomya was his coach here. He’s at Hibs and I’m yet to hear whether anybody wants to take him.
"If he’s going to Scotland, across a border, it has to be done [before the window closes]. If he’s going on loan elsewhere [in England] he could go after the window has shut.”
While the transfer window across Europe closes on Monday, it shuts on Saturday in Scotland meaning any deal with Hibs would have to be done before then.
McCarthy isn’t looking to make any further additions to his own squad before Monday’s 11pm deadline: "We’ve done our business in terms of what we did, in terms of our budget.
"As I keep saying, the players I’ve signed, I’m happy with, there’s no point looking elsewhere and saying I’d like this or I’d like that. This is what we’ve got, we’ve got a good group of players and we’ll crack on with it.”
If he needs to further add to his squad he says he will do so via the loan market as and when required, but believes loanees might not come in with the right attitude at this point in the season.
"Fair play to Ryan Tunnicliffe, who has come in from Manchester United. Every time he’s come on he’s played really well and looks a player, he is a really good player,” McCarthy said.
"But he knew he had to come in and fight for his slot. If I took someone now just before the transfer window shuts, he’d be wanting to come in and play [immediately].”
Does the Town boss expect Portman Road to be busy on deadline day? "I don’t think so, unless they all come in for Cressy, of course!”
