Smith and New Zealand Win - Ipswich Town News
Tommy Smith played the full 90 minutes for New Zealand as they beat hosts Saudi Arabia 1-0 in their opening game at the OSN Cup in Riyadh this evening. Veteran striker Chris Killen scored the only goal 13 minutes from time.
Smith was winning his 23rd full cap for the All Whites, who now face the UAE, who beat Trinidad and Tobago 7-6 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in today’s other game, in the tournament’s final on Monday. You can see highlights of the the game here.
The centre-half is one of two members of Town’s senior squad currently away on international duty with right-back Elliott Hewitt in action for the Wales U21s against San Marino in a Euro 2015 qualifier in Serravalle on Friday evening.
Hewitt, who has previously won seven U21 caps, and the rest of the Welsh youngsters then take on Moldova in another qualifier on Tuesday.
