Town manager Mick McCarthy has warned against taking Tuesday’s visitors Yeovil too lightly. The Glovers, promoted from League One via the play-offs in May, currently sit fourth from bottom of the Championship, having won only their opening day fixture at Millwall.
"I know Yeovil are coming and everybody thinks we’ll just stuff them,” he said. "But it doesn’t happen like that, that’s just bollocks.
"As soon as we start thinking like that we’ll get shafted and I’ll be sat here on Tuesday night like a chump saying ‘We did well on Saturday’. Don’t start building all that up, it does my fruit in!”
He says his players were unsurprisingly upbeat after Saturday’s 3-1 home victory over Middlesbrough, but feels they weren’t particularly downcast after previous results which went against them.
"It’s an elated dressing room, a happy dressing room, it’s a satisfied dressing room,” he added.
"I’ll have a look at Yeovil on Sunday and on Monday and we’ll work on that. I don’t think we’ve lacked confidence anyway, I think we’ve been fine.”
While last week's speculation was that McCarthy might be set to leave the Blues to take the Republic of Ireland job, the Blues boss was in charge of another team yesterday afternoon.
The Town manager made his debut as a basketball coach at the Hoops Aid fundraising event at the Copper Box in the Olympic Park but was on the losing side.
Meanwhile, Town’s U21s are in action against QPR at their Harlington training ground this afternoon (KO 1pm).
Mark Kennedy’s side will be looking for their first U21 Professional Development League Two victory of the season following defeats to Cardiff and Brighton in their opening two games.
Jack Doherty, Jordan Adekunle, Matt Clarke and David October are amongst those to have made the trip.
Elsewhere, ex-Blues academy defender Jide Maduako has joined Skrill South club Chelmsford City having been released by Leicester at the end of last season. One-time Blues reserves skipper Justin Miller has left the Essex side.
