McCarthy: Fryatt Link Bonkers - Ipswich Town News
Boss Mick McCarthy has dismissed a report claiming that he is set to sign Hull City striker Matty Fryatt on a three-month loan. The 27-year-old is out of favour with the Premier League Tigers having made his only appearance this season in the Capital One Cup.
McCarthy says there is nothing in the story: "That’s just bonkers. That’s just nonsense. Who is it that puts that out? I’ve not [had any interest in him] for years.
"I tried to sign Matty Fryatt years ago, I tried to sign him at Wolves. At Sunderland we were looking at him. That was a long time ago.
"No, I haven’t and we’re playing well and getting somebody on loan, my view is that I’d have to play him. Depending on who it is, of course.
"But if it’s a name, somebody who’s used to playing in somebody’s team who is coming out to get games, I’m not going take him on loan and stick him on the bench, I’m going to have to bring him in and play him.
"He’d have to be playing well to get in our team at the minute, so that’s nice, a nice problem to have.”
