Town new signing Paul Anderson admits he is still coming to terms with the new role he has been designated by boss Mick McCarthy.
The former Bristol City winger explained: "The gaffer likes me to be narrower than what I’ve ever known before, so even though you could say I’m in the same position it’s something I am still learning because it’s a different job.
"That’s been difficult for me in the first couple of games but we’ve spoken about it. They’re very good here at communicating with the players, telling you exactly what they want. Whatever job he wants me to do I’ll do.
"I’m learning it and hopefully in the next couple of games I’ll have got it down to a T and I’ll know exactly what my position is.”
But McCarthy, who signed wingers like Michael Kightly and Matt Jarvis for previous club Wolves, is certainly not discouraging Anderson from the sort of attacking wing-play from which strikers like David McGoldrick would surely benefit.
He added: "When we’ve got the ball he says to be my own player and do exactly what I want. But he loves the defensive side of the game and of course he was a defender when he played.
"I understand that and it normally comes into how managers want their team to play. You usually end up playing their style of game but it’s working and the lads are loving working for him.”
