Anderson Happy to Take First Town Goal - Ipswich Town News

The record books show that Paul Anderson has already opened his scoring account for Town, despite the match reports on the day suggesting the final goal in the 3-0 home win over Millwall last month was an own goal by Lions’ defender Mark Beevers.

However, the official records have since been amended to reveal Anderson as the marksman and the ex-Bristol City man laughed: "They’ve given it to me and I’ll take it.

"But I definitely hope there are others to follow. I feel as if I’ve got a goal or two in me and I’ve always felt that. I’m always a threat because I’m always in and around the box. If one falls to me I’m not scared to have a go.

"In all honesty, though, I’m more concerned that we keep winning than who scores the goals. If we keep getting the results I’ll be happy not scoring. I know that sounds wrong but if we’re getting three points most weeks I’ll be delighted.”

Town’s defenders have chipped in this season, with Tommy Smith, Christophe Berra and Luke Chambers on target against Millwall, Birmingham and Middlesbrough respectively, and Anderson agrees that he and his midfield colleagues also need to make a contribution.

He added: "Obviously, we do need to get a couple of goals but that will come. When you’ve got David McGoldrick and the defenders chipping in you just let them do what they’ve got to do and we’ll do what we’ve got to do.

"We’re very solid and we’ve been brilliant as a team. In fact, the squad is brilliant. Anyone who is in and around it is capable of being in the starting XI.

"You’re always looking over your shoulder and Carlos [Edwards] was probably the same when I was sat out — well I hope he was! Everyone in the squad is a very good player and worthy of being there.

"You’ve just got to focus on your own game and give it all you’ve got. You have to make the most of your chance and on a personal level we’ve got good results and picked up the points we needed when I’ve played.

"I’ve got to take that into consideration and it’s the first time, probably for a while, where I’ve been part of a team that’s very together. It’s all about the team — there are no individuals in this squad at all. It’s very much a team game here.”

Anderson is quick to praise his defensive colleagues, including ex-Nottingham Forest team-mate Chambers, who has been switched to right-back and claimed his first goal of the season at the weekend.

He said: "Before I signed for Forest he was playing right-back there so it’s not as if Luke hasn’t played there in the past. He’s matured a lot as a player. He’s a brilliant player — he got Player of the Year at Forest one season — and he’s been fantastic this season as well.

"The whole defence has been spot-on and we’ve been a bit unfortunate with the goals we’ve conceded. There have been deflections right, left and centre but that happens. Luke was in a great position at the weekend, which is something we’ve been working on, and he got himself the goal he deserved.”
