David McGoldrick’s impressive displays for Town this season have not surprised fellow new boy Paul Anderson after the pair were team-mates at Nottingham Forest.
While winger Anderson only checked in at Portman Road this summer, striker McGoldrick had the advantage of a 14-game loan spell last term that saw him net four times.
This season the man they call Didsy has claimed three goals in seven games, which puts him on track to become the elusive 20-goals-per-season ace that all teams covet.
Anderson said: "Didsy is brilliant. He was very good at Forest and they paid a lot of money for him. He just didn’t quite get the opportunities he probably deserved and I can see he’s come on in leaps and bounds here.
"To be honest he’s pretty much the full package from what I’ve seen. His workrate has been fantastic and that was something that was always questioned in the past, although I could never see that.
"Now he’s putting in the goals as well, which is what he gets paid for I suppose. He’s been fantastic and it’s great to be playing with him again. He could definitely play at a higher level.
"I think that’s true of the whole squad. A lot of the lads have played in the Premier League before. The individuals are very good here but it’s as a team that it comes together. Everyone is prepared to work hard for each other, which is a key factor for our success.”
But while back-to-back home wins over Middlesbrough and Yeovil have pushed the Blues up the table, Anderson believes it is still far too early in the campaign to say which teams are going to occupy the sought-after top six places.
He added: "It’s a long season and even the teams at the bottom like Bolton, who haven’t had a great start, you would expect them to there or thereabouts at the end.
"There’s a long way to go and our main aim will be to steer as far away as we can from where we were last season and if we get anywhere near the play-offs it will be a great achievement.
"At Christmas time you are halfway through the season and you are getting a feel for where clubs are probably going to be at the end. Then the transfer window comes into play and the teams with a lot of money will go and spend it, which might mean others getting left behind a little bit.
"Unfortunately that’s just the way football is. But if you’re there or thereabouts, which I’m hoping we will be, it would be good to push on from there in the second half of the season.”
