Striker Paul Taylor has rejoined his former club Peterborough United on loan until November 2nd. The 25-year-old is in need of games as he continues his comeback after 11 months out with a serious foot injury.
Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: "Tayls was out for a long time with his injury and needs to be playing games week in, week out.
"At the moment, he's not been able to do that here. Going out on loan gives him that opportunity to get that match sharpness that he needs.
"Over the short term the loan will benefit Tayls, but over the long term it will benefit Tayls and us."
Peterborough want Taylor to replace frontman Lee Tomlin, who suffered an ankle injury earlier in the week.
Manager Darren Ferguson told the Posh official site that chairman Darragh MacAnthony instigated the move: "I had a conversation with the chairman on Wednesday afternoon. We were aware that Lee had his scan in the evening and that we were getting the results on Thursday morning.
"He suggested Paul Taylor and, I have to be honest, I didn't think of him because I didn't think we could do a deal. However, Ipswich have allowed him to come out and get games, so I thank Mick McCarthy for making the deal happen.
"I was quite happy to go with what I had, but when it became clear we could get him, I couldn't turn that opportunity down. Paul is a very good player and that is why he got the move he did.
"When you get player on loan, it sometimes takes quite a long time to settle and get to know everyone, but Paul knows the place and the lads. He knows how we want to play, which is the important thing.
"He can play two or three different positions and I think it is a very good signing for us, there is no question about that. I am glad that I had the conversation with the chairman!"
MacAnthony added on Twitter: "Some minor bad news on injury front but some great news that we have signed Tayls back for a few weeks to help us. #goals&flair.
"Big Mick & M Evans incredibly helpful as well making this loan happen. Cheers Ipswich!"
Town can recall the striker from the League One club after the first 28 days of his spell.
Taylor joined the Blues from Posh for a fee of £1.5 million rising to £2.5 million in August 2012 but the Liverpudlian suffered a serious foot injury in only his third game for his new club.
This season he has made three Championship appearances from the bench as well as starting the Capital One Cup match at Stevenage.
During Taylor's absence McCarthy could view veteran frontman Alan Lee or youngster Jack Marriott - who we understand has travelled with the first team squad in recent weeks - as his fourth striker behind David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy and Frank Nouble.
Alternatively, the Blues boss could look at bringing in his own short-term signing while Taylor is at London Road. The recently linked Sylvan Ebanks-Blake would appear an unlikely candidate for that role given that he will be a long way from full fitness having not played a game since April when he suffered a broken leg and ankle ligament damage.
