Boss Mick McCarthy says he hopes striker Paul Taylor will return from his loan spell at Peterborough “with all guns blazing”. The 25-year-old is back at his old club until November 2nd as cover for Lee Tomlin, who has an ankle injury.
McCarthy says the switch will allow the Liverpudlian to get matches under his belt: "He needs to have games.
"They’ve got seven games in the next 30 days. It’s just for him to get fit. He did alright when he came on against Wigan, we were all over them, to be fair, and I thought he looked sharper.
"But he’s not going to start this weekend with us, if he stays here, he’d be a sub, used or unused, so it was just important that he got some football.
"He’s come back from 11 months out and he needs games and he’s not going to get them here.”
The Town boss says a longer term stay at London Road isn’t being considered: "All being well he’ll be back here all guns blazing.
"The intention is to cover that period and Paul, on his part, has no intention of staying there or on my part him staying there any longer.
"They talk about a month or 90 days, I want a recall after 28 days on players anyway but it’s important that he gets playing time, I think for himself to prove that he can get back to what he was and then to come back to us and have the player that we signed for so much money and had such great hopes for.”
