Town boss Mick McCarthy was delighted that striker Paul Taylor got 77 minutes under his belt in his first game on loan back at his old club Peterborough on Saturday. Posh won 1-0 away at Rotherham.
McCarthy says the Blues will be keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old, who is continuing his comeback from his serious foot injury: "We had a scout there watching him. He was involved in everything, playing in behind two strikers. We’ll have him watched every game.”
He says the loan deal, which runs until November 2nd, includes incentives encouraging Peterborough, who are next in action at home to Preston on Saturday, to utilise him regularly during his spell: "There’ll be a clause in it that if he doesn’t play, unless he’s injured, they’ll probably have to pay more.
"Premier League teams do that all the time. They give you a player, but there’s a penalty clause if you don’t play them. I guess that’s fair because that’s what you want them to do.”
Regarding loan players coming into Portman Road, McCarthy says he has no need for any at present: "Where am I going to put somebody if I’ve brought them in on loan? And who am I going to get who is better than the ones that I’ve got at this moment?
"The loans are still there whenever they’re needed, but I’m not going to bring anybody in and play them because [the players already here are] playing well and I’m not desperately in need of anybody.”
Meanwhile, former Blues keeper Arran Lee-Barrett is on trial at Portsmouth, having spent the last month at Millwall as cover for their second-choice glovesman, another ex-Town man Andy Marshall, who picked up a minor injury.
