McCarthy Delighted With Point - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Mick McCarthy was delighted with his side’s point from their 1-1 draw at Bolton, but admitted that it was an under par performance.

"I’m delighted with a point because that’s possibly our worst performance away from home,” he said. "The game wasn’t particularly good.

"Downstairs I used the words awful, dour and dire in different interviews and that was probably what it was.

"But then we’re away from home, we’re 1-0 down, we get point. I’ve got to be delighted with that.”

Ryan Tunnicliffe was close to putting the Blues in front in the first half and McCarthy had praise for Bolton keeper Andy Lonergan: "We had the best chance certainly.

"Give the keeper a bit of credit, it’s a magnificent save. Tunners comes in and he puts it straight back on target and you think he should score. But you know what, the keeper, I thought was magnificent, it was a terrific save.”

The Town boss was pleased with the way his defence coped with Jermaine Beckford and David Ngog: "I thought the back four last week against Danny Ings and Sam Vokes were terrific and again today, against really tough opponents, I thought they were great. They were prepared to run in behind and they were a handful. I’m delighted with our back four.”

Despite right-back Luke Chambers appearing to take a knock near the end, McCarthy said everyone is fine: "He’s all right, nobody’s reported to me that they’re injured.”

Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman was disappointed that his side couldn’t claim their first home win of the season having gone ahead: "I felt that it was a very hard game, we were very dogged today. We showed organisation, we showed commitment and had enough chances to win the game.

"We got ourselves 1-0 up and I felt that we’ve let ourselves down because we conceded again too quickly and that’s not acceptable.

"So, all in all, we’re disappointed with the result after being 1-0 up and looking quite determined to win the game.”

He was pleased with scorer Medo Kamara: "It was a great freekick. I thought Medo did well, he was put up against an Ipswich team which was very dogged and we matched that, we showed our qualities.

"I thought Medo’s passing was very good today. He isn’t renowned for his freekicks as yet, but he does practice a lot of them. After the game he told me he needs to take more!”
