Wordsworth Close to Completing Loan Switch - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has revealed that he could complete a move out on loan as soon as Wednesday. The 24-year-old is short of match fitness having made only two brief sub appearances for the first team this season and manager Mick McCarthy said on Saturday that he was keen to get him out for a spell.

Speaking at this evening’s Supporters Club event at Ufford Park near Woodbridge, Wordsworth was hopeful a deal was close to being done: "It’s something that we’re looking at the moment.

"I obviously need to play a few games. I think that it’s something that will possibly happen, perhaps even tomorrow if everything gets sorted.”

He says he’ll be back more ready to push for a place in the Town first team: "Hopefully, I’ll come back a better player. I think I need to play some games, I haven’t played many matches and the only way to get match fit is to play matches, so [hopefully] I can get five or six games and come back in a month’s time.”

Earlier today on Twitter Wordsworth gave a hint that he might be on his way back to his old club Colchester, telling several of his team-mates that he would "see you Thursday morning chaps”, however, we understand the Blues have been in discussions with another club in recent days. That side isn’t Southend, who are also believed to have been eyeing the midfielder.

Also at the Ufford Park event taking questions from fans at an entertaining evening were former Blue Kieron Dyer, now a coach in the academy, joint-managing director Ian Milne and goalkeeper Dean Gerken with Simon Milton the master of ceremonies.

Meanwhile, former Blues skipper Terry Butcher has been confirmed as the new manager of Hibernian on a three-year deal.
