No Colchester Return for Wordsworth - Ipswich Town News

Colchester boss Joe Dunne says he has not made contact with the Blues regarding a loan return to the Weston Homes Community Stadium for ex-U’s midfielder Anthony Wordsworth.

Dunne was at Town’s U21 match on Monday to watch the 24-year-old in action but confirmed that he has not followed up his interest at his pre-match press conference this morning.

"Anthony is available for loan at Ipswich but I don’t think he’ll be coming to us," he said.

"I’ve made no contact with Ipswich about him. I know what Anthony can do and he’s a tremendous talent.

"He’s at a stage of his career now where he needs to play games now. Mick [McCarthy] knows what’s best for his club and I’m not going to spend too much time talking about other clubs’ players."

Speaking at Tuesday’s ITFC On The Road event at Ufford Park near Woodbridge, Wordsworth said a move was close to being finalised: "It’s something that we’re looking at the moment.

"I obviously need to play a few games. I think that it’s something that will possibly happen, perhaps even tomorrow if everything gets sorted.”

As reported earlier in the week, we understand Southend and Preston have both shown interest in the Londoner, but it is another so far unnamed club with whom the Blues have been in more advanced discussions in recent days.
