Town Draw Preston - Ipswich Town News

Town have drawn League One Preston North End at home in the third round of the FA Cup.

The clubs have met in the competition on two previous occasions, in February 1954 when the Lilywhites won 6-1 at Deepdale, then in January 1980 when Town ran out 3-0 victors also on Preston territory with Paul Mariner netting twice and Alan Brazil once.

Simon Grayson's Preston beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 away in round two on Saturday, having beaten Barnet 6-0 in the first round. They are currently third in League One.

The teams last met in the Championship in the 2010/11 season when the Lancastrians won 1-0 at home and the Blues 2-1 at Portman Road.

The game is Town's first home FA Cup tie since the 3-0 victory over Chesterfield in January 2009. Third round ties will be played on the weekend of 4th/5th January.
