Former Loanee Campbell Bailed - Ipswich Town News

Ex-Town loanee DJ Campbell was one of six people arrested in connection with spot-fixing allegations on Sunday with his yellow card while playing for Blackburn against the Blues last week reported to be under investigation.

Five of the six - Campbell, former Portsmouth defender Sam Sodje, his brothers Akpo, who plays for Tranmere, and Steven, Ian Goodison, another Tranmere player, and Oldham’s Cristian Montano - including Campbell have been released on bail until April next year.

The 32-year-old was booked for a foul on Aaron Cresswell in the 23rd minute of Tuesday’s match which Town won 3-1.

Blackburn have confirmed that the striker, who spent three months on loan at Portman Road last season scoring 10 goals in 17 games, was one of the six held by the National Crime Agency following early morning raids on Sunday: "Following reports in today’s national media, Blackburn Rovers can confirm that striker DJ Campbell has been arrested.

"The club will be making no further comment on what is now an ongoing legal matter."

Town will not be commenting on the matter. Yesterday, the Sun on Sunday reported that Sam Sodje had told an undercover reporter that he was able to arrange for players in the Championship and other divisions to receive bookings for cash.

Sodje told the reporter that he had been deliberately red-carded while playing for Pompey last season for £70,000.

The players' union, the Professional Footballers Association, said in a statement: "The PFA is aware of the reports in yesterday's media regarding allegations of 'match fixing' and other related activity.

"These allegations, if proven, unfortunately demonstrate the real issue football faces in terms of corruption and highlights the necessity of the work carried out by the PFA and other stakeholders in the game in educating players of these risks.

"We take the issue of integrity very seriously and will continue in our efforts to eradicate this evil from our game.

"In terms of these specific reports, due to the ongoing investigation by the National Crime Agency, we are unable to comment further at this time."
