Ebanks-Blake: Promotion Possible - Ipswich Town News

He has yet to kick a ball in earnest for Town but new boy Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has already seen enough to believe a promotion challenge is possible.

The ex-Wolves striker has ‘previous’ at this level after his goals helped to take the tile to Molineux under Mick McCarthy and he also scooped the top scorer award in successive seasons.

Ebanks-Blake, 27, said: "That was a good time but I’m not someone who likes to dwell on the past. It’s about the present here at Ipswich Town, although it would be great if I could recreate some of the things I did in the past.

"My focus is on Ipswich now and why can’t I get back to where I was? I scored quite a few goals in this league last season before I got injured so I don’t see any reason why I can’t now I’m here.

"It’s a really good squad, tight-knit as well, and they are all good lads. It has got all the ingredients for success. But you can never walk into Mick’s teams, you have to work hard to get in and stay in.

"It’s going to be difficult but I knew the challenge that was ahead of me and that’s why I took it up. We are just on the cusp of it at the moment and the lads have picked up some very good results.

"There are some good teams in the mix but why not Ipswich? They are definitely in contention and this is a good time to be in and around it.”

Apart from McCarthy and his assistant, Terry Connor, Ebanks-Blake has been reunited with former Wolves colleagues Christophe Berra and Stephen Hunt.

He added: "It’s good to see a few familiar faces but all the lads have been great. I’ve only been here for a week and it’s been easy to settle in.

"I remember coming to Ipswich when I was a kid to see them playing Liverpool in the Premier League, plus I played against them a few times when I was growing up. All my family are still in Cambridge and it’s only an hour away so it’s good to be here.

"I had other clubs interested. There were bits and pieces but that’s not something I want to focus on. I’m here, I’m an Ipswich Town player and that’s the main thing. I’m delighted that it’s signed and sealed.”
