Burley Admits Millers - Ipswich Town News

Town boss George Burley has confirmed that Rotherham have made an attempt to take Richard Naylor to Millmoor as we reported by TWTD last night. Rotherham wanted the striker on loan, but Naylor was only prepared to move on a permanent basis.

Burley says he is happy with the 24-year-old striker's decision: "Richard decided he wants to stay here at the moment and I am quite happy with that. He has not been a regular choice, but he has still done well for us. He's a real 100 per cent type. We're at an important stage of the season and we need as strong a squad as possible."

Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore said last night that his attempts to land a loan striker had failed and that he was quoted £750,000 if he wished to buy that player, a figure out of his price-range. Given Naylor's injury history, we suspect that a figure below that is a more realistic valuation.

This week has also seen Fabian Wilnis, another fringe player, looking for a move away from Portman Road, while Andy Marshall has admitted considering a loan move too. Burley says he has sympathy with his squad players: "I have spoken to one or two clubs about Richard and I have kept him informed. He is like a number of players here who are not holding down a regular place, but loan moves have to be right for all parties."

Naylor recently revealed that Burley will accept decent offers for him should they come in. There are clearly clubs interested in him and a move away from Portman Road looks likely before the season is out.
