Taylor: Gills Fans Will Take to Marriott - Ipswich Town News

Gillingham boss Peter Taylor is sure Gills fans will take to Town striker Jack Marriott during his loan spell with the League One club. Marriott, 19, will be at the Priestfield Stadium until the end of the season, having recently completed a highly successful loan spell at Skrill Premier side Woking, where he scored nine goals in nine games

"This is a lovely opportunity for Jack to get some league experience,” Taylor told Kent Online. "He knows he won’t play every week and I have spoken to Mick McCarthy [about that] but he is going to be a good player, there is no doubt about that.

"Our supporters will like to see the honesty of the young boy running around all over the place. He is a good finisher and we have seen that in our training sessions already. We are hopeful Jack will do well here."

Taylor says it's down to Marriott to battle his other strikers for a place in his side: "Jack has scored a lot of goals, everywhere he has played — every team at every level.

"I wanted that type of player. To have him, Cody McDonald, Danny Kedwell and Adebayo Akinfenwa all pushing each other is great.”

Marriott, an unused sub in last week’s 1-0 home victory over Wolves, looks likely to be on the bench for the Gills’ game at Colchester on Saturday afternoon, while Elliott Hewitt, who has rejoined the Kent club on loan for a month, could join him if he is over his ankle injury.

Freddie Veseli is set to make his second appearance for his loan club Bury when they visit Chesterfield in League Two.
