Burley Chuffed With Win - Ipswich Town News

Town boss George Burley was delighted with his side after completing their first double of the season. Burley enjoyed the game and says that the winner is John McGreal's despite a deflection off Ledley King.

The Town manager said: "That was a cracking game. Tottenham are an exceptional side with some very clever players, they have great movement and interchange well, and we had to change things around. We were pleased to get our noses ahead in the first half, then had a couple of good chances early in the second. They got the equaliser and then we battled back well to go on and win it. To beat a team like Tottenham twice in a month is a tremendous achievement. It was definitely John's goal. He's claimed it and I am not going to argue with him."

However, Burley warned that Town are by no means safe yet: "There is still a long way to go although it was nice to get three points from a very tight game, as that didn't happen much in the first half of the season."

Glenn Hoddle was unsurprisingly unhappy with his defence after conceding two goals from corners. He said he had warned his men about Mark Venus's whipped in delivery: "We punished ourselves really. The marking from corners was disgraceful really and if we don't get better we will be punished again. I can accept players getting half a yard clear but their players had three yards on both accounts and that is very frustrating and annoying. We had control of the game for long spells and at 1-1 I felt we would go on and win it but it wasn't to be."

Andy Marshall was a surprise choice in the Town line-up and was making his home debut: "I feel great. It has been a long time coming. I partly
expected to start the season but circumstances changed. I have waited and worked hard and today I think I reaped my rewards. I was very disappointed with their goal and hold my hands up. I felt Poyet would shoot across me and had half gone, but a player of his quality picked me off. I know I am good enough to play in the Premiership. I have played in Division One for the last five or six years with Norwich and didn't want to go back there unless I had to. George said to go out and enjoy myself today and now hopefully I can stay in the side although I will just take each game as it comes."
