Club on Away Fan Encroachment - Ipswich Town News

Town ticket office manager John Ford has commented on reports that there were large numbers of Spurs supporters in home sections during Saturday's 2-1 win against the London side.

TWTD has heard from supporters in the South Stand and the Britannia Stand Saturday that there was a fair-sized away presence. This at a time when a some Town fans in the ballot are unhappy at the number of tickets they have received this season.

John Ford told TWTD: "We are very aware of the problems of away fans in home areas and sell tickets quite carefully. Postcodes needed for the database mean that we can refuse to sell to somebody very obviously in the catchment of the away club.

"The priority scheme of selling any tickets remaining or returned by the ballot to Portman Plus members first means that when they go to general sale there is a very small number, and finding more than two together is a task.

"We should, of course, recognise that there are a large number of Londoners living in this area who may be members, or season ticket holders, who support Ipswich for 18 league matches and their 'home' team once a season. But I can assure you and other supporters that we take great care to avoid any problems through careful selling."

Last season there was similar controversy pover away supporters in home sections with calls from fans for away fans to be banned from home sections as they are at some other clubs. Then the club explained that there are a number of corporate season ticket holders who give their tickets to clients who may support Town's opponents.
